About OLA
Education is ministry
OneLearning Academy is a Christian school in Derby with a full-time micro school and a homeschool enrichment program, with classes of 15 students or fewer.
Our story
Like most ministries, OLA began with a need. As OneChurch at Pleasantview grew and welcomed more young families, it became clear that families in our community wanted more Christian education options. Church leaders began to pray about how to help, even though no one knew how to start a school.
God was already at work. Two schools had been started by qualified educators and parents: a full-time micro school and a hybrid homeschool. Both were passionate about Christian education, each served families in a different way, and both needed a home.
Within about a year, God brought OneChurch and both schools together with one shared vision. OLA combines the best of each, with a Full-Time track and a Homeschool Enrichment track, so we can serve families across Derby and the surrounding communities.
Our heart is simple: to offer quality education with a spirit of service, and to bless families as they raise their children the way God has called them to.
What we share
Our values
Our two tracks differ in schedule, but they share five core principles.
Mastery-based learning
Every student is guided through the skills they need, starting with strong reading and math foundations. Students show what they’ve mastered through projects and a portfolio parents can see. Teachers combine small-group instruction, individualized learning technology and hands-on work.
Multi-age classrooms
Students learn alongside peers of different ages and encourage one another. It builds self-advocacy: our students learn to take responsibility for their learning and speak up for their needs with people of all ages and abilities.
Missions
The world will know we are disciples by our love for others, and missions is how we show that love. Students serve through local and global opportunities to help and bless others.
Family-centered learning
Family involvement is essential to every child’s growth. Parents are welcome to volunteer, to serve alongside their children and to spend time in our building.
